Each year, the Affton Lemay Chamber of Commerce hosts its prestigious Awards & Dinner Auction Gala, a night dedicated to recognizing outstanding leaders who make a meaningful impact on the community. This year’s event, held on Saturday, January 25, at the River City Casino and Hotel Event Center, celebrated one of Notre Dame High School’s finest, Dr. Kate Ellerbrake, as an Exceptional Educator.
Dr. Ellerbrake is more than a teacher—she is a visionary who works tirelessly to further the mission of Notre Dame High School. Known for her dedication and passion, she brings her lessons to life in ways that resonate deeply with her students. Her approach to teaching tackles real-world relevance and embraces challenging topics, inspiring her students to think critically and compassionately.
Her contributions to the school extend far beyond the classroom. Dr. Ellerbrake serves as the Senior Class Coordinator, National Honor Society Moderator, and Cheerleading Sponsor. She also believes in the power of learning beyond the walls of Notre Dame High School. Recently, she led a group of students on a pilgrimage to explore civil rights history. In 2022, she organized an enriching trip to England and Scotland, and this summer, she’s taking 50 students on an educational journey to Greece. These experiences not only broaden her students’ horizons but also create memories and lessons that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Dr. Ellerbrake’s innovative spirit shone last fall when she orchestrated an all-school read. She coordinated professional development for Notre Dame faculty with the book’s author and arranged for the students to engage in a meaningful discussion with the author after completing the read—a testament to her commitment to building a connected and thoughtful learning community.
